Paris, Je T’aime (2006) A
Please don’t read on if you haven’t watched the movie. Don’t read even if you don’t intend to watch the movie.
Alright, alright! I’ve watched it! Okay, please
18 arrondissements of Paris; 18 stories of love…
Montmartre – Bruno Podalydès
Fainting woman
Florence Muller … Young Woman (segment “Montmartre”)
Bruno Podalydès … Driver (segment ‘Montmartre’)
Quais de Seine – Gurinder Chadha
How do you tie this scarf?
Leïla Bekhti … Zarka (segment ‘Quais de Seine’)
Cyril Descours … François (segment ‘Quais de Seine’)
I like this segment very much, mostly because Cyril Descours’ smile and the way his teeth shows. It’s such a cute and lovely story. an enjoyment to watch.
Le Marais – Gus Van Sant
Lost in Translation
Marianne Faithfull … Marianne (segment ‘Le Marais’)
Elias McConnell … Elie (segment ‘Le Marais’)
Gaspard Ulliel … Gaspard (segment ‘Le Marais’)
a segment with a small twist at the end which made us laughed a bit. The story itself was okay. We watched Gaspard trying hard to express how he felt yet receive no response. However, what hit me the most was when Gaspard took off his jacket, I was completely mezmerized. He’s not hunky or muscular at all, but the line of his body… I just cannot take my eye off of him. It’s beautifully intoxicating.
Tuileries – Ethan Coen & Joel Coen
Why you should never stare at people in the subway station
Julie Bataille … Julie (segment ‘Tuileries’)
Steve Buscemi … The Tourist (segment “Tuileries”)
Axel Kiener … Axel (segment ‘Tuileries’)
It’s so nice to see Steve Buscemi.
Loin du 16ème – Walter Salles
Spanish lullaby-singing nanny
Catalina Sandino Moreno … Ana (segment ‘Loin du 16ème’)
It’s so beautiful and sad with little dialogue yet full of emotions.
Porte de Choisy – Christopher Doyle
Chinatown fantasy
Barbet Schroeder … Monsieur Henny (segment ‘Porte de Choisy’)
Li Xin … Madame Li (segment ‘Porte de Choisy’)
clueless
Bastille – Isabel Coixet
Husband has affinity for red trenchcoats
Javier Cámara … The Doctor (segment “Bastille”)
Sergio Castellitto … The Husband (segment “Bastille”)
Miranda Richardson … The Wife (segment “Bastille”)
Leonor Watling … The Mistress (segment “Bastille”)
don’t know why. I kept forgetting the existence of this segment yet it’s a powerful one. By acting like a man in love, he became a man in love again.
Place des Victoires – Nobuhiro Suwa
Cowboys do exist
Juliette Binoche … Suzanne (segment “Place des Victoires”)
Martin Combes … The Boy (segment “Place des Victoires”)
Willem Dafoe … The Cowboy (segment “Place des Victoires”)
Hippolyte Girardot … The Father (segment “Place des Victoires”)
don’t like this part particularly; perhaps it’s because I don’t like Juliette Binoche very much. However, I love the toasting scene at the end.
Tour Eiffel – Sylvain Chomet
Your parents met where?
Yolande Moreau … Female Mime (segment “Tour Eiffel”)
Paul Putner … Male Mime (segment “Tour Eiffel”)
I kinda hate mime. But it is magical, I’ll give it that. I especially like the boy with huge bag.
Parc Monceau – Alfonso Cuarón
Old man and a young lady
Sara Martins … Sara (segment ‘Parc Monceau’)
Nick Nolte … Vincent (segment ‘Parc Monceau’)
Ludivine Sagnier … Claire (segment ‘Parc Monceau’)
Very misleading. Told it’d made more sense when you watch the second time. However, I wouldn’t say it’s a prefect piece; not because of the feeling of being lied to but something else.
Quartier des Enfants Rouges – Olivier Assayas
American starlet finds escape
Lionel Dray … Ken (segment ‘Quartier des Enfants Rouges’)
Maggie Gyllenhaal … Liz (segment ‘Quartier des Enfants Rouges’)
Joana Preiss … Joana (segment ‘Quartier des Enfants Rouges’)
I was worried about the knife… (and was looking forward to Ken to show up!)
Place des Fêtes – Oliver Schmitz
Seydou Boro … Hassan (segment ‘Place des Fêtes’)
Aïssa Maïga … Sophie (segment ‘Place des Fêtes’)
very very very beautiful.

Bob Hoskins … Bob Leander (segment ‘Pigalle’)
Quartier de la Madeleine
Vampire in the city of light
Olga Kurylenko … The Vampire (segment “Quartier de la Madeleine”)
Elijah Wood … The Tourist (segment “Quartier de la Madeleine”)
This is so Sin City. and I HATE HATE HATE Elijah Wood!
Père-Lachaise
Who’s buried in Oscar Wilde’s tomb?
Emily Mortimer … Frances (segment ‘Père-Lachaise’)
Alexander Payne … Oscar Wilde (segment ‘Père-Lachaise’)
Rufus Sewell … William (segment ‘Père-Lachaise’)
Rufus Sewell’s so good. His presence powerful. Such a cute and sweet story.
Faubourg Saint-Denis
Blind boyfriend sees
Melchior Beslon … Thomas (segment ‘Faubourg Saint-Denis’)
Natalie Portman … Francine (segment ‘Faubourg Saint-Denis’)
Love the flashbacks
Quartier Latin
Husband and wife on the eve of their divorce
Gérard Depardieu … Café Owner (segment “Quartier Latin”)
Ben Gazzara … Ben (segment ‘Quartier Latin’)
Gena Rowlands … Gena (segment ‘Quartier Latin’)
14ème Arrondissement
Margo Martindale … Carol (segment “14ème Arrondissement”)
Directed by Alexander Payne, his usual down-to-earth, touching narrative. I didn’t love it particularly, but many people seem to feel with the character. (*shrug*)
