Exploration of the new Milpitas Library
Feb 4th, 2009 by Ashley
I love public libraries. When I was in Buffalo, Audubon was very close to Creekside, the complex where I used to live, and it was my source for rock music and the West Wing and other entertainment. Then I moved to south Fremont where I had two choices: the Fremont lobrary and the Milpitas library. At the beginning I went to both, but gradually I only went to Fremont library cos Milpitas library was just too ghetto-y and I hated the smell of it. Even though I moved south, first to Milpitas then to north San Jose, I hesitated to switch my allegiance. Until one day, the Milpitas Library closed, and reopened at a new location a month later.
I was on my way to Borders to study for Brit Lit midterm, and I thought what the heck, I could always go to Borders if I don’t like the new library. So I turned on Main st. which gotten ghetto-er and ghetto-er as I drove further south; at one point, the bridge, the high raised buildings (read: 5 or 6 stories) and the road construction were reminiscences of the streets Taipei. A curious feeling was aroused within me. It seemed that the city of Milpitas is undergoing a big development project and apparently the new library was one of the first. The library appeared within my sight along with a parking structure(!) which took me some time to comprehend (One doesn’t expect to see a parking structure in Milpitas.) I parked my car and walked toward the entrance. I was already in awe before I entered the library. It’s new, it’s beautiful and it’s… fancy. I haven’t got the chance to examine its collection, but I’m feeling that I won’t be seeing the Fremont library for a while.
