on 59th Tony’s

Jun 8th, 2005 by Ashley

I was anxious about watching the Tony’s, and it turned out to be awesome except for some minor defections, such as Hugh Jackson’s low appearences and some procedural flaws. Still, it’s an enjoyable show.

Let’s talk about its flaws. That’s what I do better. :p
Some presentor seemed to have insufficient preparation. I believe more than one presentor got big tongues that night. Some jokes are not taken, sadly but fortunately, subtly. Billy Crystal was a nice surprise. I’ve always been a big fan of his Oscar; However, I think he did too much this time. Afterall, it’s not really his show. And the beep-out was somewhat annoying, but I guess CBS couldn’t be blame. It’s better to be more cautious than to be sued. Broadway.com was harsh on them, saying, “Does the “c” in CBS stand for “Censorship”? ” and “Thank goodness they didn’t perform a scene from Glengarry Glen Ross. We wouldn’t have heard a word.” lol

The most memorable moment was when Christina Applegate fall off a lamppost on her way to present the Best Choreography Tony right after whoever announced her saying that she broken her leg before the opening of her show. Everyone was shocked and then laughed realizing that it’s predesigned. I adore females who are not afraid of making jokes. Fantastic job, Christina!

The most refreshing one was the performance of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. I didn’t like the music very well, for me, melody is crucial; however, it still aroused my interest. It seems to be a powerful and fun show. I can’t wait to see it!
