Prozzak [Cruel Cruel World]

It was, again, the summer of 1999. They were playing Prozzak’s Strange Disease on TV. This Montreal based animated band caught my eyes right away with their extremely cute “a little sexual frustration, combined with lack of motivation, and a loss of concentration, I’ve got a strange disease. ” Simon & Milo, two characters created by James McCollum and Jason Levine, members of The Philosopher Kings, were on their journey in search of true love.
Cruel Cruel World is a very different album comparing to their previous ones. Hot Show and Saturday People were about fun, straightforward passion and, of course, heartbreak. There’s nothing deep; you can even call it childish, but they are enjoyable to listen to, actually they’re awesome to dance to as well. Cruel Cruel World, on the other hand, was more grey-ish. As it’s stated on their website, Simon and Milo have “wound up in a colourless world, where love may not exist.” In this album, they also covered a lot of Boston songs, which, as a result, made the album less original than their first oncs.
Among the new songs, I like “Don’t Love Me That Way” the most. They actually managed to express some true emotions and that’s what makes a song good to one’s heart.
