In most people who have migraine, most attacks of migraine occur for no apparent reason. However, something may trigger migraine attacks in some people. Triggers can be all sorts of things. For example, foods, stress, wine, etc. For some women, migraines occur during periods. The actual cause of the trigger is thought to be the fall of the level of the hormone oestrogen. The blood level of this hormone falls just before a period. It is not a low level of oestrogen that is the trigger, but the fall from one level to another.
The strict definition of menstrual migraine is for the migraine to start anytime from two days before, to three days after the first day of a period. Also, that a migraines occurs around most (or all) periods. There are two types of patterns.
* Pure menstrual migraine is when migraine occurs only around periods, and not at other times. This occurs in about 1 in 7 women who have migraine.
* Menstrual-associated migraine is when migraines occur around periods, and at other times of the month too. About 6 in 10 women who have migraine have this type of pattern.
Symptoms usually improve if you become pregnant when there is a constant high level of oestrogen. As you approach the menopause, the migraines may become more frequent as the level of oestrogen tends to go up and down at this time. However, once past the menopause, you have a constant stable low level of oestrogen, and the number of migraines tends to reduce.
Women who take the combined contraceptive pill have a fall in oestrogen in the pill-free week between pill packets. This is when the period or ‘withdrawal bleed’ occurs. This fall in oestrogen may also trigger a ‘menstrual migraine’.

Rainn Wilson’s (The Office) character is just like the Jack Black stereotype, and the world doesn’t need another Jack Black. But then again, maybe there are too many people like that out there, with unfulfilled dreams, never really given a chance.
It’s a realistic fantasy movie where the life crushes you but your dream still come true. It’s cute, it’s not overdone and ‘rockers’ like you and me should definitely watch it.
Cheers~

I didn’t buy the second and third Keller book (Hit List and Hit Parade). I finished one in the bookstore and the other just the other day with the one I borrowed from the library. Hit and Run is Block’s latest Keller which was just published in the end of June this year.
I didn’t want to start it right after finishing Hit Parade. One reason was that I’ve already started a 800 page or so Che Guevara book which seem to be an impossible task by itself without distraction. However, one day while I was in the Borders waiting for my dining partner, I picked up Hit and Run and the intro on the cover aroused my interest instantly.
After Huston Street cost us the game this afternoon, I turned into Borders and threw myself into the thrilling and intriguing world of Keller’s. Hit and Run sure is a page turner. I couldn’t stop until my stomach seriously protested. I went home, checked the waiting list for Hit and Run at the library and decided I can no longer wait and I don’t want to restrict my reading of Hit and Run in the local Borders. I ordered it at Amazon after I was done with my dinner.
Alas, I think I’ve spent all the savings I made during the month of June in July.
I don’t know why some people (especially those who are merely acquaintances, not friends, to me) think that giving them a ride (or helping them in any way I can) is my responsibility and act annoyed when I say I’m not able to.
I’m more than willing to spend my time and efforts helping my friends, but be real, you’re a long way from being qualified.

Hit Parade

It’s great to be home.

the goal of this trip is to visit the NAPA wineries that participated in the famous blind tasting event that change the wine world’s view of California wine.
We headed to Yountville to pick up the wine Welton ordered from Continuum. Carissa Mondavi, granddaughter of Robert Mondavi, was going to meet him but eventually couldn’t make it so left the bottles at a family favorite restaurant, REDD. Guy, the manager brought the wine to us and mentioned that Carissa would like a buy us, a glass of champagne (okay, buy Welton one. But I was there. They had to pour me one, too. XD) They opened Drappier for us which was very nice. I rarely had champagne or sparkling that I like, and this is one of the few. Enjoying the champagne, I asked for the menu and we decided it’d be a shame if we passed the chance dining here.
We ordered Warm potato and leek soup with shrimp tempura and smoked salmon panini as appetizer. I had prime new york steak tartine, balsamic onions, aoili, onion rings and Dominus Cabernet Sauvinon to go with it. Welton had patrale sole, creamy jasmine rice, clams, saffron curry nage and had Far Niente Chardonnay.
Before we got the entree, our waiter brought up a plate, said it’s courtesy of the chef. (!) Turned out it’s the Glazed pork belly, fig purée, burdock, soy caramel, which is absolutely delicious. I can’t help but thinking… it does have its perks to be somebody.
Afterwards, we had peach pudding (it does have a fancy name which I don’t remember) and chocolate mint variaties + coffee.
The entire lunch took us around 3 hours. So it didn’t leave us much time to visit the wineries. But I have to say, the meal itself was worth the trip. We visited Chateau Montelena, and their wines are still overpriced and not impressive. Then we visited the newly opened Castello di Amorosa, which is owned by the owner of V Sattui. They offer a wide variety of wines, not spectacular but not too pricey, either. And the castle is a good place to walk around.

Happy July 4th! =D
Joe Blanton had a good outing and with some offensive helps finally got his 5th win.
Today, the A’s wore the alternative green top with blue caps, which is really weird, while White Sox are in their camouflage shirt which is even more peculiar. :p
It’s the fireworks night. Before the game, the commentators talked about how Joe Blanton is usually very efficient and the time he pitched in a fireworks night game, he finished the game too early and the audiences had to wait for a good hour for the fireworks. They even interviewed Joe before the game and asked him about that. Joe is so darn cute. =D
