I am Your Sunshine

I picked up Shelby Lynne randomly. I didn’t even know she’s a Grammy award-winning singer/songwriter. I just grab a CD that seems okay and checked it out along with Bruce Springsteen (because of the song 1985), Billy Joel (because of the song Piano Man), Bonnie Raitt (because of the song I Can’t Make You Love Me) and for no reason Melissa Etheridge and Fleetwood Mac, which turned out to be mentioned in the book I was reading earlier, The Perks of Being a Wallflower.

The first song of the album didn’t impress me much. I thought it’s just another ancient (pardon me) pop singer. However, Leavin’ showed me something different and I started to pay more attention. Some of the songs reminded me of Sheryl Crow, both the style (country rock) and her voice. It’s really nice to discover something “new” that I can listen to when I’m tired of punk and alternative and indie. I have been listen to the same female vocals (Sheryl Crow, Lisa Loeb, Shawn Colvin, Deana Carter) for so many years, it’s about time to add some freshness to the pool.

I AM Shelby Lynne is pretty easy-listening and contains more than one kind of music. Some makes me wanna get up and move with the rhythm, some makes my heart ache a little bit and some miraculously cures the wound.

I love Better Than Ezra.

I fell in love with them the first time I heard A Lifetime. I wouldn’t say Kevin Griffin’s voice is heavenly beautiful, but there’s something about his voice that easily stirs my heart and makes me feel.

Friction, Baby is their second album after the original guitarist Rundell killed himself. I can’t really talk about how their music changed through the years cos I didn’t follow them chronologically. Their music always has the magic that moves you. Kevin tells stories with beautiful melodies and you can almost see the pictures like movies on a big screen.

But I think I like their later albums better, Closer and Before the Robots.

Like the 60th Tony, there was no host in this evening. However, the ceremony floated nicely. This year, we saw many familiar faces that we often find on TV or movies, such as Kevin Spacey, Billy Crudup (Stage Beauty), Heather Goldenhersh (The Class), Felicity Huffman, Christine Ebersole (Related), Angela Lansbury (Murder, She Wrote), Robert Sean Leonard (House, M.D.), Ethan Hawke, Zach Braff (Scrub), Claire Danes, Taye Diggs (Day Break), Jane Krakowski, Bernadette Peters and David Hyde Pierce (Frasier).

Everytime after watching the Tonys, I wanna be in New York. There are so many shows I’m dying to see. Combined with the past 2 Tonys, the musicals/plays I wanna see are:

雖然我討厭綠色，但我不得不同意黃綠相間的 Oakland A’s，靠著海邊總有加州招牌藍天相伴的綠蔭 McAfee 球場真是非常漂亮。去年秋天我戴著 Chelsea 圍巾陪來訪的高中同學去看了場 Oakland A’s 對 Boston Red Sox 的比賽，流著東岸人血液的我， 支持 Red Sox 是很自然的事（明明是紐約州，卻支持 Red Sox 而非 Yankees，那又是另一個故事了。）最後 Red Sox 以 0-9 慘敗，但其實我也不很放在心上。

上周末從紐約 Charles 來找我玩（他可是貨真價實的 Boston 血），系壘出身的我們，當然要一起去看一場 A’s 的比賽。這次看的是運動家對克里夫蘭印地安人（Cleveland Indians，俗稱笑臉人）的比賽。我跟 Cleveland 無親無故，於是轉向支持本地的 Oakland A’s。那場比賽 A’s 從頭落後到九局下半，在兩人出局、好多觀眾提前離場這樣看來絕望局勢下，Bradley 的全壘打追平了比分。正當我在想該不會要打到延長賽時，指定打擊 Jack Cust 的再見全壘打粉碎了印地安人兩個多小時的好心情。這樣的熱血讓我漸漸開始注意這支球隊，(當然一方面也是因為英超 06/07 賽季結束了, 沒比賽看有點空虛。) A’s 板的輕鬆搞笑氣氛（跟 Chelsea 板有異曲同功之妙）以及 A’s 導致一培養出好球員就被買走的可憐的財務狀況（Oakland Athletics 以在有限的成本打出漂亮的成績著名），都是讓我開始喜歡這支球隊的原因。

不過說真的，美國流行的運動怎麼都那麼拖時間啊？棒球若是一直沒人出局，一局可以無窮無盡地打下去，投手慢慢投也會拖長時間。籃球也是可以暫停，一節的最後幾十秒可以打個好幾分鐘。美式足球更是出名的會拖,，以下情景是活生生的例子

等著出門的太太 : (不耐) 你還要多久才看完啊!
沉迷於球賽先生 : (不耐) 再兩分鐘啦!
太太 : (不相信) 現實的兩分鐘還是美式足球的兩分鐘?
先生 : 美式足球的兩分鐘。
太太 : 果然…… #$!%@^%

足球就好多啦！大部份都是最多兩小時結束，除非很不尋常地踢到延長賽，但一般聯賽是沒有延長賽的。足球真是個非常適合忙碌現代人觀賞的運動啊! (心)

入手!

(我的第一張 Blue October [Foiled] 的心得大概放了一年吧 orz)

Blue October 的出碟順序是 The Anwsers(1998), Consent to Treatment(2000), History for Sale(2003), Foiled(2006), 我倒著聽回去.

三張專輯略有不同, 尤其 Foiled 非常多元, 感覺他們在嘗試更多新東西, 然而三張聽下來還是有個主題風格. Justin 有點沙啞的聲音非常誠懇不矯情造作宣洩他的思緒他的心情他的憤怒, 作曲與演唱是他治癒過程的一部份, 在這個過程中也許我們心中的黑洞對應到他的傷痛, 靈魂共振的那一瞬間, 我們被他認真的神情感動時同時被醫治.

Darn!! 根本就打不出去. 好悶啊…

至少沒有讓 Schilling 拿到 no hitter.

今天克羅埃西亞跟英格蘭的比賽是同時比, 我投向克羅埃西亞. 雖然今天英格蘭的大名單有四個切爾西人 (JT, Lampard, JCole, Bridge) 讓我覺得不看有點過意不去, 尤其 Bridge 好不容易又在國家隊出賽呢! 但是克羅埃西亞是我最愛的國家隊, 而至今我已經將近一年沒看過他們的比賽了說, 所以我還是選擇克羅埃西亞, 畢竟克羅埃西亞有轉播的比賽少的可憐.

沒想到今天的比賽無聊的可以, 讓人不禁懷疑他們是怎麼踢到榜首的. 無論如何, 能夠再度看到 Niko Kovac 真是超棒的, 藍客場好漂亮啊! 真想敗一件.
(其實照片是三月跟英格蘭的比賽的, 這場比賽的照片少的可憐, 而且沒一張有 N. Kovac…orz)

ps. 今天英格蘭大勝愛沙尼亞, 真是恭喜了. B23大出風頭啊…

又, 19號小Niko現在在港嘴踢球, 以後要注意一下 (上個賽季每次都忘記看他 XD)

星期天跟阿嬤講電話, 她才叫我不要亂花錢, 我一面答應一面心虛. 因為我最近正打算入手幾本書跟一些 CD. 我又接著安慰自己, 比起前陣子出去遊玩的錢, 這實在不算什麼, 何況我已經打算一段時間不出去玩了.

先是 LB 的電子信誘惑我買了 Telling Lies for Fun and Profit 的書及有聲書, 我又咬著牙定了一年份的 The Believer, 在 Borders 隨便晃到 Wallflower 沒想到一看愛不釋手就買了回來. 接著在 ebay 上買了 Hope of the States 的第一張專輯 The Lost Riots, Better than Ezra 的 Deluxe 與 Friction, Baby, 兩張都是我想買很久的. 又在 Amazon 買了貓叫我看的 Understanding the Enneagram: The Practical Guide to Personality Types 還有 Nick Horby 的 Songbook, Sir Walter Scott 的 Ivanhoe (one of my all time favorite) 以及 Blue October 的 Consent to Treatment. 我還打算陸續買進 Muse 的 Absolution 與 Black Holes and Revelation, Travis 的 The Boy with No Name 跟 12 Memories, Counting Crows, Third Eye Blind 的大部份專輯. 不過這幾張現在還沒找到好價錢. (CD不會貼身, 所以我不介意買二手的, 書就不行了. 我知道有人很愛舊書的味道, 但我還是喜歡新新的擁有一本書. )

喔還有 6/14 的 Fratellis 演唱會要 $27, 6/16 的 Keren Ann 大概要 $20

好像不多, 但你要想想我今年已經看了 42 部電影, 8 部影集(不算 Day Break 因為它只有前半季, ie. 06後半年) 3 場演唱會, 5 場音樂劇 (包括 Cirque du Soleil) 然後從農曆年開始直到五月底每個周末都是滿滿的… 而且好多戶外活動啊! XD 我要開始夏眠! DVD, 書, 電影院, CD, 我來了!

今天 Swisher 終於結束連續三振的命運打出一個 single 並且送某 K 回家. 恭喜恭喜! :D
Ellis 還是一樣很棒. 不過今天是守備比較好看. A’s 五次雙殺 XD
