Liverpool (again),

Buca Di Beppo

All That We Needed.

=> Arsenal, FCBarca, ManUtd

XD

The Good, The Bad and The Queen

I started reading The Jane Austen Book Club on my way back to the states from Japan last summer. It, along with A Long Way Down and other Chinese novels, was my in-flight reading. My in-flight book since my trip to London in 2001 had been Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. I decided to have something fresh this time, since it seemed that I’m not going to finish it anytime soon (one reason is that I’ve already known the story very well, thus lack the urge to push me reading forward. Not that it’s not an enjoyable experience, don’t get me wrong.)

It’s been almost nine months. In between, I read The Burglar on the Prowl by Lawrence Block, Sideways and countless Chinese fictions. Burglar is a mystery; one would be more motivated to finished a mystery. Sideways was a book everytime I read, I’d hope I’m holding a glass of wine. Well, that’s not the reason I put down The Jane Austen Book Club and focused on it. I have to say that the language Rex Pickett used facsinated me more than Karen Fowler. And because I’ve already watched the movie, I knew Miles better than any of the book club members. Once I finally got to “know them” know them, I could hardly stop reading; however, it was already towards the end.

Something bugged me from the very beginning to the end though. It’s really annoying not knowing who is telling the story. I’m ok with third person story telling, but sometimes she refered to the club members by their names, or she (or he) and sometimes we, us or even I. It’s like there’s a ghost among them and sometimes she would attach herself on one of the characters.

Another interesting thing is that when I got to the point where Grigg recommend Jocelyn to read Carol Emshwiller after she read Ursula LeGuin, I just read a short by Carol Emshwiller!

Forza Milan!

Anyways, now the remaining couples are either pretty good or … have something about them worth supporting. Let’s cut to the chase.

couple_04Joey’s Samba – It was fabulous. Such great fun watching him. My fav performance of this episode. Even though it might not have reached perfection, you know me, I always put characteristics into consideration. I like you, you get my vote.

Heather’s Paso Doble – I can’t see pass her disability. I’m sorry. It’s just not good for me.

John’s Mamba – better than last week. They criticized the routine which was too harsh for Edyta IMO. She had to create a routine that John can keep up with, and you and I both know that left Edyta with little options. John’s cute, but he really can’t dance. To this point, the only old man who can dance for the past 4 seasons was John O’Hurley. couple_01

Laila’s cha cha – I wasn’t paying attention cos I was thinking about it’ll be so much fun if they ask Cudicini to join the competition. (A footballer, a good looking one!, whose schedule unfortunately isn’t usually tight.) It’s pretty good but not my cup of tea.

Billy Ray’s jive – I didn’t know it’s a jive, one of my fav dances, but they pulled a pretty nice performance. To my own surprise, I like it.

Apollo’s Ramba – not enough chemistry. kids, seriously. Julianne outshone Apollo again. I think they should work on that. Don’t show off too much. couple_10

Ian’s Paso Doble – no more Mr. McStiffy. I think he’s improved a lot; however, the judges were still kinda hard on him. I think they’re probably trying to see the Drew Lachey in him, but come on, he’s not Drew. Hope he can stick long enough to grow to their expectation.

Group Swing today. It was FUN beyond believe! I love it!!!!!

What happens in Vegas…

Goes home with you. *

I’m just kidding.

ParisSo we got there around 7:30pm, headed straight to Venetian. We were lucky enough to get a room in Venezia, but not lucky enough to get a free upgrade. My bad, I shouldn’t have said “he’s not my type” out loud in Mandarin when we checked in. (We were joking about flirting with front desk to get a better room.) Apparently, Robert, the guy at the reception desk, is half-Taiwanese. Forgive me, but I really can’t tell. You couldn’t, either!

Anyways, we had a pretty decent dinner at Pinot. In Paris Then we walked from Venetian to Paris with my fancy black dress and killer black sandals. They did kill my feet by the time we got to Paris. We went there for the famous piano duet. They were fabulous, Billy and David. However, they weren’t able to sing the song I requested, like Slow Motion by Third Eye Blind. So I settled for Smell Like Teen Spirit because I played bass part of that song once. We went there on Sunday night and Billy came over and talked to us a bit before they started. He remembered us. He said we were the ones who requested some “obscure” songs the other night and I told him to check out Slow Motion.

I don’t remember what we did after that, but clearly we did something else cos we went to bed around 4 and we slept til noon. Hurriedly we went for buffet, Ceaser’s didn’t look good enough so we switched our destination to Paris which gave us a good 40 minutes wait. It was pretty good. I love Creme Caramel! And we had fun “helping out” our waitress. I guess she reminds us of Niki, single mom in Vegas? Anyways, we went our separate ways afterwards. Chun went back and managed to finished one book I brought (the one by Kaori Ekuni) and I went to Las Vegas Hilton for… dadadada Star Trek: The Experience!!!
260_6068
It proved again that it’s not as much fun as it can/should be going with trekkies. We went on the Klingon ride twice and Borg ride once. I love the Klingon ride! If only I wasn’t bleeding everywhere. It could have been a thousand time better. But this is life. Got a few cute T-shirts (a Q Ferengie “What’s in it for me?”, a Q Vulcun “live long and prosper” and a Q Borg “get assimilated”) and a Klingon shooter (I was gonna buy a engraved Klingon Bird of Prey thing but I don’t remember if I bought a star fleet engraved thing the last time I was there, so I didn’t.) I talked to a girl from Romania when I was (wrongly) in line for a backstage tour. I initiated the conversation since she was alone and I was too (in the Star Trek lover world.) I asked her whether she knew what species the blue person was. She told me she was Andorian. (Man, I haven’t watched ST for such a long time.)

10pm, we went to Wynn for Monty Python’s Spamalot!!!!! It was hilarious from the beginning to The End. (Spamalot deserves its own post… later, if I have the energy.)

Got up earlier than Saturday, Wynn for brunch. I like Wynn better for their exquisite dessert (I think I had 3 creme caramel, yumm~) and chilled seafood. Went to Coke and M&M place and then went all the way back to Treasure Island to see Mystere by Cirque du Soleil! It was fantastic but too short. And secretly and personally I like Spamalot better. We eat ham, jam and spam a lot!
I'm not a Coke person though
Chun went out to gamble a bit as Welton took a luxurious bath with his laptop and wine glass (!?) and I went downstairs to watch people gamble. I love to watch roulette and I’d love to play if I have cash with me. But, bleh, I know I wouldn’t cos I’m a chicken. I’ve never played at the table before. (I never play slots either. I’m not at all interested anyway. Slots are boring.) The next time I definitely will. Someone has promised (although he doesn’t sometimes hold on to his promise -_-) to company me at the table.

BillyLater we met at Paris for a light dinner (crepe!) We settled in Napoleon’s bar, sitting in the very front (per my request) and that’s when Billy came over and said hi. I had Pinot Grigio that night as opposed to Long Island Iced Tea (cos the Long Island I had the other night was like coke with just a little drop of alcohol -_-) I made a request. As usual, I put three songs on the paper in case they didn’t know the song. Why Does it Always Rain on Me, which was such a classic, but they, Scott, picked Hotel California. It was nice but if you, Scott, considered it a chick song, why don’t you sing the other two. We heard quite a few good piece, including Meat loaf’s Paradise by the Dashboard Life. It’s a very interesting song. Also Queen’s classic Bohemian Rhapsody, Shout, If I had a million dollars, and many classic rocks. I put another request for Scott cos I didn’t see him getting much and apparently he thought Me and My Shadow was too old. Hell, how would I know which one is older. 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s… I heard them all in late 90s or 00s. They’re all the same to me. So he asked me if there’s anything else I wanna hear, and I gave him other three request notes to make him pick. (He called me the hot chick in the front row, by the way. But I was already mad at him, so whatever.) He threw the notes to Billy cos he didn’t know any of those songs. And Billy was such a sweetheart (cos he likes my songs.) You know, I tried to find some 80s cos I don’t think they would know the bands I’m into. I love oldies but I’m not an expert. I was born in the 80s and I didn’t learn English until I was 8. The very limited resource I once had, MAX FM, was unfortunately turned into a country station. (I don’t like systematic research. I like surprises. Guess it’s my fault.)
Scott
Anyways, he picked Don’t You Want Me, a classic from the 80s. It was really fun. I was pretty satisfied and I cannot think of other songs to request, so I just sat, simply enjoyed whatever they performed and sipped my Pinot Grigio. And out of the blue, Billy decides to play Should I Stay or Should I Go by the Clash, which is another fun song. Chun said he sang this one for me for free. Told you he’s a sweetheart! We stayed til the show ended and Billy came over again asked how long we were gonna stay. Unfortunately, we were leaving the next morning. So he told us that it’s fun to play for us. I hope he meant it cos it’s really fun to hear them play (even though I kept throwing them “obscure” requests.)

We got to Venetian around 2 and got up at 4 to take our 6am flight… it was the worst part of the trip…

*for those who don’t live in the states or don’t watch TV. Lately Las Vegas has a slogan: What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas.
