shit

just found out that my H1 starts from Sep 20 this year. So that means I don’t have a empty window period. That means I don’t have to wait til the end of the Sep to go to NY(state and city), but I’ll have to take unpaid or PTO. What a drag. Now I have to plan it all over. Perhaps going there in the begining of Sep might be a good idea.

New York, New York

Just talked to Jenny. It’s so nice to finally get in touch with her. And then we set a date on Sep. Now I’m definitely going back to Buffalo and NYC in Sep. See you guys soon! Ciao~

Recently

It’s kinda dry here, my brain as well. I’m again in the state of emptiness. Can’t form any relevant thoughts; can’t do anything productive. At the same time, I feel my life wasted away. It’s all futile.

Devon Aoki

The girl in Sin City (and other movies). She might not be considered pretty, but she sure looks exotic and model-like.

Tony Awards

Tony Awards

Cake

subtract one love and multiply the heartache

Individualism

Individualism is so deeplu rooted in me. I guess that’s why I like 鹿鼎記, 袁承志 and 神雕俠侶 better than the others. 行俠仗義 is sometimes necessary; heroism, however, is too much. I’ve finished reading 神鵰, 碧血, 鹿鼎, so now I’m reading 天龍 & 書劍.

Brukner

I came across blog the other day and saw his artilces on Brukner. It aroused my interest in classical once again. Therefore, I borrowed a bunch of classical (mostly symphonies) CDs last time I went to the library. The funny thing is when I was browsing through, I saw many Brukner CDs; hence except for Brahams and Schumann, all the others I borrowed were Brukner.

So recently I’m enjoying the beauty of classical music. However, I realized that classical is not a suitable commute music, cuz unlike regular rock and pop, classical music is not only about melody but the expression as well. (okay, okay, rock is not only about melody either, but rock is usually storng enough that it wouldn’t be affected even if the car or the outside traffic makes a lot of noise.) I guess it deserves a decent stereo system… which I dont have now -_-

Elektra

The West Wing season 2

仍然很震驚, how many bad things had to happen at the same time?

WW season 2,

Gender Gap

Came across a short article on the Economist which talks about a ranking of gender gap The World Economic Forum published.

and here’s the

So many to read!

All of a sudden, there are so many interesting articles on the Economics that I can’t read them at once.

< - very intriguing :p

Not Science & Tech

Empathy

There’s this really interesting article on :

facts that intrigue me:
autisitc is an example of people without empathy.
the lack and the use of empathy is understood long ago, but it’s not until recent years that scientists began to understand its neurological basis.

and the last view paragraphs briefly introduced several studies which is worth taking a look at

Andromeda XVI

Between birth and death lies desire,
desire for life, for love,
for everything good.

And this is the source of all sufferings

vice President

As I was watching the West Wing, I can’t help wondering what
exactly a vice president does.
Well, according to my observation of the West Wing, he hardly
shows up in the White House, and he seems to do nothing except
causing some trouble from time to time.
(of course, i know it’s not fair to say so.)

But I’m really curious about what he does being in the position.
I’m wondering if the system works the same as it does in Taiwan
and in the States.

(Oringinally posted on Jan 2004, but since I’m watching TWW lately i figure it’s ok to post it again as a new one I’m moving my articles here)

Mr. Lee & Education

his education ideas are widely and long being criticized. people are being near-sighted? I rather believe that he’s not supposed to playing this from the very beginning.

An indicator

The earlier I leave the office, (indicates that) the more work do on that day.

There’s this interesting article on the Economist: claiming evidence that psychopaths are born that way instead of being shaped into beings without empathy or remourse.

We accept that most behavioural traits are the result of an interaction between the two, still the scientists have brought the evidence that gene plays a crucial part here.

The result was carefully calculated thru statistic method. Therefore, there might be some hidden factors which lead to a wrong conclusion. However, you can’t actually do any experiment but observe. Afterall, we’re human beings.

The last paragraph of the article is quite intriguing though.

Though the genes in question have yet to be identified, this result suggests they are too abundant to be there by chance—in other words they are being kept in the population by natural selection because psychopathic behaviour confers a selective advantage. If it does, such an advantage probably pertains only when psychopaths are in the minority (a state of affairs known to biologists as a balanced polymorphism). But it does mean that far from being an aberrant behaviour, psychopathy may be disturbingly normal.

Pride & Prejudice

It seems that there’s gonna be another not-so-good adaptation of
my all time favorite novel – Pride & Prejudice
I’d rather they didn’t make the film
The only adaptation I approved is the one BBC made in 2001
which is a 300 mins mini TV series

Much unlike the Mansfield Park produced in 1999,
sarring Frances O’Connor, an actress I adore,
which is detestful and an insult to Miss Austen,
BBC’s P & P is modest, moderate and faithful.

Anyway, I don’t think a 2 hour movie can bring the essence of P&P
and I hate cheap attempts which might give people wrong ideas about
Jane’s beautiful story
especially those people who choose to watch the movie
to have an understanding of the world classic,
instead of making the time to read the original.

It’s just like (well, it’s only my prejudice.) the Vanity Fair
last year, which was made as if it’s another fancy Braodway Musical
I deeply believe that BBC did a better job (on adapting VF)
though I admit that BBC do fail sometimes
(They failed me on Ivanhoe <- My fav when I was a teen) still, the precetage of the decent ones they produce is way higher
