I am Your Sunshine

I was going through my writing drafts and came across one that I worked on and have forgotten about – The Objects of My Obsession, started in July 07 and I suddenly realized that my first A’s game, which was against the Red Sox, took place in September 2006, was part of the most recent season in which the A’s clenched ALWest champion. And I was totally ignorant about it.

I’m speechless.

I was so close to something that great. Something that I’d LOVE and be totally thrilled over. And it just sneaked behind me, around me, and right in front of me.

And the Fulham station which was stops away from the Days Inn we stayed.

The cruel reality joke that time have played on us over and over and never gets tired of.

Lately the radio keeps playing Papa Roach’s latest single Lifeline. And every time I hear first few Keane’s Everybody’s Changing.

James T. Kirk – Chris Pine, 很有William Shatner 的感覺, 看得出來有下一番功夫. 不過這角色個性怎麼跟他在 Bottle Shock 裡面那麼像, 已經被定型了嗎? XD

Spock – Zachary Quinto, 一出場就覺得他不像平靜的 Vulcan, 殺氣非常重啊 Syler…

Spock Prime 就是正牌 Spock, 所以沒什麼好說的.

Nero – Eric Bana, 完全沒認出來. XD

Capt. Christopher Pike – Bruce Greenwood. 前陣子才看了 Being Julia, Greenwood 超級迷人啊~

Dr. Leonard ‘Bones’ McCoy – Karl Urban, LOTR 的 Eomar, 搞不好在 Xena 時代就見過他了.

Uhura – Zoe Saldana, 不認識. JJ 從 6 Degree 帶過來的?

Scotty – Simon Pegg!!!!!!!!! (還需要多說嗎? 好吧, 如果真的需要的話… Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, Run Fatboy Run)

Sulu – John Cho, 不是很喜歡他, 不過至少也是個 recognizable face.

Pavel Chekov – Anton Yelchin, 不認識, 但是很可愛. 讓我想到 Dollhouse 的 Victor.

Spock 之母 – Winona Ryder. 完. 全. 沒. 發. 現.

Kirk 之母 – Jennifer Morrison, Dr. Cameron…

Kirk 繼父 (voice) – Greg Grunberg, 真不愧是 JJ 幼稚園的好朋友啊 連這樣也可以參一腳 XD

Chief Engineer Olson – Greg Ellis, Trust Me 裡面的 Simon Cochran, 真是大快人心!

I’m always for football. I want the better team to win. My friends, Chelsea eat Barca for lunch. They gave them the ball and useless domination. Unfortunately, the big semi-final was ruined by the referee. It’s unbelieveable that so many wrong decisions could be made on account of one team. Barca shouldn’t fool themselves and think they were better in 180 minutes.

我被感動到了. 也許是剛表演完還很情緒化很易感, 也許是演員們的詮釋很真誠 (加上 Women’s Murder Club 的 Aubrey Dollar 實在很可愛, Patrick J. Adams 也很有小狗般惹人憐愛的潛力), 看得好開心啊. :)

I wrote a poem and decided to title it Mr. Robinson knowing that people will inevitably think of Mrs. Robinson, the song, and the movie. I wanted a generic name that applies to anyone instead of making readers link it to someone specific, someone famous. And then I googled Mrs. Robinson and learned that the song was initially written about Mrs. Roosevelt and Joe DiMaggio. There’s a line in the song “Where have you gone, Joe DiMaggio? Our nation turns its lonely eyes to you.” which DiMaggio complained when first heard about it but then dropped it because he realized he was made famous again because of the song. I found it interesting. But I still doesn’t like DiMaggio.

Bill Evans 如此浪漫.

今晚我是要繼續努力寫我那篇硬邦邦兼社會現象探討又帶點神秘氣息的報告, 結果 Bill Evans 的鋼琴柔若無骨, 全身都要酥了. 而在這一個悶聲不吭熱氣悄悄錫人的晚上, 音符滑過琴鍵如微涼清泉輕撫, 每個細胞都不由自主用心地體會感受.

然後就不想做正事了.

So I was having lunch and supposedly studying for my essay, a strong smell invaded my nostril, the kind that you’d smell in a rabbit/chicken stack room at a country fair. I raised my head and saw a man with long curly blond hair and beard in khaki jacket with smudges on the sleeves, jeans, and a pair of Nike. Holding a cup of venti Starbucks coffee, his right hand was dirty (but his left looked respectfully clean) with long nails curled slightly up toward the ceiling. I saw there wishing him leave but at the same time wondering if I was being uncompassionate (That’s not really the word I was looking for. After all, I didn’t know him enough to determine whether he needed compassion or not. Maybe it’s his choice of life. Might you that he could afford a cup of overpriced Starbucks.) Prejudiced. There, that’s better.

Then I decided I wasn’t. If he were the way he was without the smell, I wouldn’t probably have noticed him at all. I wouldn’t feel uncomfortable or threatened (like some are extremely paranoid and frightened at the sight of a homeless) even if I had. The smell, however, made the difference. Scents are intrusive and there’s no way resisting it. The only thing one can do is to walk away from the source (or have it go away), unlike unpleasant sights, which you can simply turn your eyes away. You can CHOOSE not to look at it. Yet there’s no way avoiding the smell as long as you need to breathe to live. And breathing through one’s mouth is out of the question. Imagine inhaling whatever particles that carry the scent without at least some help of filtering by your nose hair! Therefore, it was totally justified, like we’d stand further away from someone who wears strong perfume.

It’s also interesting, come to think of it, that (some) people would do or not do certain things which are “totally justified” in fear of offending or being mistaken for someone who despises the “underprivileged” or the “disadvantaged”. For instance, as you’re about to switch to a seat by the window on the bus, someone fat sits down beside you. You might stay where you are so that he wouldn’t tale your changing seat personally. But the fact is, when you consciously make that decision, you acknowledge that being fat is something to be despised of.

I’m not trying to make out what’s right and what’s not. Just an observation.

the sun is poisonous to the soul

the forever sunniness forces us to create clouds, dark & moist cloud within us because the law of conservation of mass dictates that all things have to remained balanced and bitterness grows just to keep things in check. it is the natural order of the universe. I’m pulled further and further away from this wonderful being I used to love, and hate, but love undoubtedly more.

but we all know it’s the misleading and cheating consensus that breeds the venom and we, as unfortunate creatures subject to infinite status anxiety, repeatedly fall over the lies. we embrace the laws and put on our disguises and try always and forever to be entertained at our leisure. we try so hard. we never stop and ponder whether we really want to and need to be entertained all the time, cos no one never teaches us to. what do we really really need? what is it that our soul is forever seeking and longing? the time is gone. just like that. whether you chose to happy or angry. like that. gone.

perhaps it doesn’t matter to some of you. but as a person who doesn’t care about the length of life, who long has forsaken the silly thought that “i’d be gutted, had i left the world without going here and there, doing this or that”, i don’t want to take the time i’m given lightly and I surely don’t feel it would give me joy just to fulfill the steps that the world has lay out for me, the lie of “work, vacation, work, vacation.” no sir, no thanks.

New series:
Kings ***** (NBC)
大衛王的故事, 或者說是現代撒母耳記(?)
演員, 布景, 故事都很精緻, 張力也很夠.
看了三集我都很喜歡, 不過誰知道他會不會在中間忽然搞砸呢?
倒是讓我想再把撒母耳記讀一遍.

Castle **** (ABC)
很多人拿 The Mentalist 跟 Castle 比, 然後批評 Nathan Fillion 不比 Simon Baker 帥. 但老實說 Simon Baker 本來就不是我喜歡的型, 而且我又是 Firefly 迷 (雖然只從頭到尾看過一遍 XD) 所以這對我來說不成問題. Castle 的步調輕外, 對話有趣 (雖然有的地方有一點點太刻意), 角色的個性分明. 是個輕鬆地渡過一個小時的好選擇.

Dollhouse *** (FOX)
從第四集之後就一直蠻好看的. 即使第八集讓我有種 “搞什麼鬼啊…” 一切似乎回到原點的感覺. 不過它很成功地在每一集結尾都下一個恰到好處的 cliffhanger, 不會重到讓人反感, 也不會輕得讓你忘記看下一集. 總覺得 Dollhouse 很容易跟 Alias 一樣搞到一發不可收拾 (或是 Battlestar Galactica 一樣聽說到最後所有人都是Cylon?) 不過在那之前, Dollhouse 對我的娛樂價值還是蠻高的.

The Mentalist *** (CBS)
一開始 Patrick Jane 的神奇觀察能力很吸引人, 而這部影集的成功之處之一就是讓觀眾幾乎站在平等地位上. Jane 所觀察到的東西鏡頭都會帶到, 是否能夠歸納出正確結論就各憑本事, 至少不會讓觀眾覺得只是在看個不知其所以然的魔術秀. 不過最近幾集小細節似乎較少, 然而 Lisbon 手下這個團隊的化學作用還是很有趣, 讓人在關心案情之於也關心他們之間的互動.

The Unusuals *** (ABC)
pilot 一開始, 我想說 “真特別, 是以 hookers 為主角的影集嗎!?” 結果原來是一部警察 dramedy. 很喜歡 Amber Tamblyn, 不過她看起來還是像高中生啊.

pilot 主要還是在介紹人物, 所以看不太出來它預定的走向. 不過感覺是一部有惡趣味可能再加上一些陰謀論的警察影集. 拍攝手法, 布景跟角色造型都跟當下(我有看的)警探/警察影集不太一樣, 完全不光鮮亮麗, 有一點點 Life on Mars 的感覺. 各個角色設定都很用心, 沒什麼雜魚填空間的角色.

SouthLAnd *** (NBC)
似乎是頗受好評的新戲, NBC自己的宣傳是 ER 警察版.
走的是寫實路線, 跟 The Unusuals (同樣是警察新戲) 比起來, 目前沒有特別突出的角色 (但 The Unusuals 本來就是主打”unusuals”) 但是整齣戲非常平易近人, 有一種莫名的吸引力. 我剛看十分鐘就覺得我會喜歡這部了.

Trust Me *** (TNT)
差一點就要被我丟掉了, 但是110, 111 又精彩了起來. 讓我很期待之後的發展.
(結果剛剛發現似乎要被取消了… XD)

Cupid *** (ABC)
Cupid 是十年前短命同名影集的 remake, 同樣都是在 ABC 播映. 我很喜歡 98 年的 Cupid, 於是蠻期待本季的 remake. 看了兩集下來, 就是一個個簡單輕鬆愛情故事, 是個疲累時拿來放鬆心情笑一笑, 被感動一下的好東西.

不過, 我討厭 Sarah Paulson. 為什麼不能找別人演啊. 另外, Cupid 再帥一點就好了, 我比較喜歡十年前的 Jeremy Piven.

Eleventh Hour ** (CBS?)
衝著 Rufus Sewell 而看. 每一集其實都還蠻有趣的, 而且會學到一些莫名其妙的東西 (也不知道是真是假), 但是老是提不起勁來看它. 這種人與人之間互動較少的影集還是比較難吸引我.

Better Off Ted (ABC)
到頭來該好笑的地方都不好笑, 唯一值得一看的是 Portia 一臉正經地講出一些很荒謬的話. 但整體而言還是不值得花20分鐘的生命. 還不如去看我的 Newsradio DVD. 不看了.

In the Motherhood (ABC)
老實說我只看了一集, 不會覺得難看, 也不會讓我想繼續看下去. 可惜了 Megan Mullally.

Returning:
Life s2 ***** (NBC)
How do I love thee? I can’t even count the ways.
Life 風格突出, 音樂與劇情的配合非常完美而常常製造出一種很超現實的感覺. Charlie 跟 Reese 的互動很可愛, 第二季加入的大叔(雖然不帥卻魅力十足)也為本劇添加了有趣的元素.

不過, season finale 這樣搞, 大概是兇多吉少的意思. 唉

Dancing with the Stars s8 **** (ABC)
本季還蠻有可看性的, 感覺得出 ABC 有在用心製造一些變化. 不然說真的, 就算比賽本身再有趣, 其實看多了還是漸漸會覺得無聊.

The Big Bang Theory s2 **** (ABC)
抗拒了一整季, 我終於還是投降了. Sheldon 實在是太可愛了!

Medium s5 *** (NBC)
一直斷斷續續地看 Medium, 之前幾次跟別的劇衝到 (因為 Tivo 一次只能錄兩個頻道), 被我放棄. 但無論我何時開始看, 都又馬上再度喜歡上 Medium. Medium 的編劇一直有辦法想出新的議題以及新的表現方式, 到現在都還不會讓我覺得無聊.

Chuck ** (NBC)
怎麼說呢. 有的時候是還蠻好看的, 說來大概是角色不太討我喜歡. Chuck 呆呆的, 老是做些讓我生氣也讓大家生氣的舉動, 卻又總是擺著一付很悲情, “我為大家犧牲”的樣子.

不過Chuck 老爸出現這集真是精彩啊! Season Finale 真是太棒了! 大概是最好看的一集 Chuck (雖然說各段連接有點不自然.)

有人說他們是 one hit wonder, 那首也稱不上紅極一時, 只是有一陣子廣播常播的 Sometime around Midnight. 對我來說, 也許他們的歌不會讓人朗朗上口, (很興奮地拿 Sometime Around Midnight 給w聽, 結果只得到一句 “旋律性不夠” orz) 但是節奏感以及不斷的重複製造出一種密閉空間的感覺, 再一層一層稍微添加上去, 情緒穩穩地累積, 然後忽然得以宣洩, 卻不是那你筋疲力盡精神衰弱的宣洩. 平平穩穩, 很是舒服.
