Chelsea v Feyenoord

Summer Movies

Scoop (limited) – Hugh Jackman + Scarlet Johanson by Woody Allen

Accepted -
Invincible – I also cannot resist uplifting movies adpated from real stories.
The Guardian – Ashton Kutcher actually looks convincingly serious. Good for him!
The Covenant – Dunno… looks good. but thriller? (not even sci-fi?)

滿

[updated]

Birk’s

Gonna have lunch with the boss I’d never had at Brik’s. Amber suggested the place. the place where “someone” always wanted to go but we never really did. (Cuz I prefer French over steak XD)

I’m so so glad I finally went, despite all those people saying “Ahh… I don’t understand what they’re doing” and “no closure!!??” I should be ashamed that I was hesitated about watching it (apart from one of the reasons that my movie pal’s alerady seen it.) How could I have doubts about oh captain my captain?

It was a complete blast. Captain Jack was mesmerizing as always and there were so many parts that were refreshing and creative and fun. The Flying Dutchman was spetacular. The name alone is quite romantic. It’s fun how they, from captain to the crew, all look like seafood. (Yummy~)

Well, okay, not exactly images that will perk up your appetite. My apology.

Anyway, I really like the movie. Not a moment I felt dull. (Well, perhaps when Orlando Bloom talks to that irritating Keira Knightley.)

ps. And I thought that Norrington looks familiar. and he turned out to be Jack Davenport, the Steve from Coupling!! I knew I know him!

Can you tell? Susan’s beloved Steve :)

Felicity season 4

剛看完 Laura,更早時才看完 The Red Shoes,然後 Chelsea 輸給 MLS all star (好吧,其實不是很在意這個。

XD

Laura (1944)

I shall never forget the weekend Laura died. A silver sun burned through the sky like a huge magnifying glass. It was the hottest Sunday in my recollection. I felt as if I were the only human being left in New York. For Laura’s horrible death, I was alone. I, Waldo Lydecker, was the only one who really knew her.

A classic ’40s ’50s detective film noir starring the elegant Gene Tierney who only appeared in the half of the movie and was glamourous and stunning. She was composed and graceful and her acting was subtle and convincing. It’s a hord-boiled style of mystery story about love, jealousy and moral conflicts.

Very very worthy of my 87 minutes plus special features.

“The way she listened is way more eloquent than speech.”

Watched Gene Tierney’s biography. It was even more dramatic than the movie. The unluckiest lucky girl in the world, so her ex-husband described her. A beautiful person from within to out had lived little time of happiness. She was suffered from betrayal, heartbreak and loss of her love which led to her mental illness.

So sad… poor Gene

John Tucker Must Die

Click

Loser – Beck

一直都覺得這首歌很可愛,查了歌詞才知道原來 “I’m a loser baby, so why don’t you kill me” 的前一句是 “Soy un perdedor”, 難怪我一直聽不出來。(而那句其實就是西班牙文的 “I’m a loser” XD )

XD

Korbel Champagne

Born with it

Some people have the ability to tell pretty lies and make them sound sincere and not at all affected.

(Not talking about me XD
I’m sincere when I’m sincere.)

it’s bashing time.

Squiddy wrote an article on CaughtOffside – It’s not our fault you’re greedy, is it?

I agreed with some of his points. However, he tends to believe that everything Chelsea did, every decision made is absolutely right and righteous. Well, come on. There’s no perfect person; there’s no perfect club. When your club is wrongfully accused, defend it. When the club is not totally innocent, just keep your mouth shut. Defense makes you look ignorant and blind.

But there are some arguements that were made to attack Chelsea just for the sake of attacking. There was one person pointed out that

1. Liverpool and Chelsea want SWP
2. Man City demand 20M
3. Liverpool can not pay, Chelsea can.

How is this Chelsea’s fault?

and one replied

its your fault you let yourself be blackmailed and pay over the odds. why shouldnt we?

Isn’t it funny in a so very typical way? It’s like the ancient arguement that whether the fault falls on the girls who’s raped because of wearing a short skirt or the rapist, like saying that it’s your own fault to have so much money, and my robbing you is fully justified.

#3

A girl walked over and sat on the chair next to me. I glanced at her, noticing she had “Everyone Worth Knowing” in her hand. I couldn’t help but had another glance because of the book and that she’s speaking Shanghainese on the phone. But aside from the book and the language, she has nothing resembles Sheila. The girl is actually slender and tall. So I took two more looks and went back to my book. Five minutes later, I found her looking at me when I raised my head for anothger sip of my latte. Our eyes met for a second, and she caught it. “Hello, Lori.” she said. I hid most of my surprise and merely lifted one of my eyebrows. “I’d prefer Lorainne. You are?” She’s well-prepared. I can tell. “I’m Sheila’s friend. My name is Missy.” I contained the urge to roll my eyeballs. She continued when she realized that I had no intention to say anything else and was going to return to my book. “The thing is,” she tried to sound calm, “Sheila wants to meet with you… if you don’t mind.” “Why?” I remained patient. I’m usually nice to strangers. “Ugh… she kinda wanna get to know you.” I could act like I don’t know a thing she’s talking about, but I was in no mood playing games with her. It’s a waste of my time. I just wanted to read my book. “Why?” again I asked. Her composition broke a little bit, “She wants to be friend with you.” Ha, I thought. I wondered why some always want to be friend with boyfriends’ ex’s. Anyways, I could have thrown another “why” at her, but I was afraid that she might cry. To avoid a possible scene, I replied, “but the desire is, unfortunately, not mutual.” She froze for a second or two and squeezed a tiny bit of a smile, said “Oh… okay. I’m sorry to bother you.” She took off with her book right away. What a hypocrite. Birds of a feather flock together. How true.

In my opinion, Sheila is a very traditional Chinese. She is able to comfort herself in every possible way. Q philosophy, if you happen to have some knowledge about Chinese literature or culture. I’m sometimes amazed by her attitude, but mostly I regard it with contempt. Optimism and thankfulness in a way maybe, but pity and low self respect are more accurate.

Quotes

He had a peculair mix of competence and cluelessness that marks the suburban computer geek.
– Karen Joy Fowler

If any one faculty of our nature may be called more wonderful than the rest, I do think it is memory… The memory is sometimes so retentive, so serviceable, so obedient – at others, so bewildered and so weak – and at others again, so tyrannic, so beyond controul!
– Jane Austen

The Light in the Piazza

Listen to the Original Cast Recording

Spontaneity can sometimes bring you bigger surprise than you expected, while well-preparation keeps you from unexpected hindrance on the way.

If you can still recall, I listened to The Light in the Piazza soundtrack for the second time on Monday evening, which aroused my interest in the musical and therefore went looking for SF show info, and luckily, I got a email from SHNSF saying all seats for preview show on 8/1 would be $45. I searched for available seats, and 2 pretty good center orchestra seats turned out. I called chun immediately and the next thing I knew, I was booking the tickets. (I’ll skip the process where we debated whether we should buy tickets from craiglists and are we really going to watch another “first show”?)

I wasn’t going to see the show when I first learned that it will be on during Aug, cuz for all I knew back then, it’s just a love story takes place in Italy and they assembled the cast in a real short time, which indicated a good chance that the performance will not be superb. But as my curiousity towards the show increased and that low price ticket for excellent seat looked so tempting, I decided to go. Plus, going to the show saved me from struggling whether I should go to LA this weekend, cuz I used my travel budget for musical. Sorry, Greg. (and Ronaldinho and Eider.)

It turned out to be spetacular. Though we did miss the first 15 minutes because of BART delay, darn. The singing was beautiful (except Frabrizio’s second song. And come on, you were in the orginal cast. What’s the matter with you?) and we were instantly amazed by the sets. HOW LONG IT HAS BEEN SINCE WE LAST SAW A EXTRAVAGANT SET? For the past 6 months or so, we saw The 25th Annul Putnam County Spelling Bee, Death of a Salesman, You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown, Urinetown and A Chorus Line. Almost all of them were one set from start to end, if you count moving stairs (Urinetown) and switching mirrors (A Chorus Line) as changing sets, well. The story was simple and sweet with delicate details and gently exaggerated Italiano expression. I particularly love the preformance of Meg Johnson. Though in the poster she looks as if she were a passerby, merely a mother companied her daughter, Clara, who fell in love in the foreign city. But no, she was actually the center of the story. How she protected her daughter and how the love once she had had faded away. And through the somewhat operatic music and refreshing melody, the truth about Clara was revealed subtly. What a grand enjoyment.

Everything

I didn’t realized until recent years that I was given everything when I was a kid.
It’s too late to cherish it but it’s better late than never to be thankful.
